Product details

B+W Infrared Filter

B+W Infrared Filter - the special filter for extreme contrasts. The B+W Infrared Filter allows you to take advantage of the existing residual sensitivity for experimental black-and-white photos with high contrasts.

Green leaves and grasses are rendered from bright to white. A "wood effect" with dramatic contrast between clouds and sky can be achieved.

Practical Tips

  • IR effect only occurs in bright light
  • Set image sharpness before attaching the filter
  • Pay attention to infrared engraving (if available) on the lens
  • Choose a small aperture
  • Determine exposure time through test series
  • Use a tripod due to long exposure times

Note

  • Check your camera's IR compatibility. Point the IR remote control at the camera and press a function button. If a white light spot appears on the camera monitor, the camera sensor has sufficient residual sensitivity.
  • IR images must be optimized in the image program afterwards.
  • Convert the color image to black and white.
  • Increase contrasts automatically, preferably using the histogram.

IR Red Dark 695 (092)

This less intense infrared filter does not block the entire visible light spectrum and allows for captures with both visible and invisible IR components. The black-and-white contrasts are not as high.
