Whether burglary protection for the home, monitoring pets or as a baby cam - surveillance cameras promise security and control around the clock. But which devices deliver sharp images, work reliably and are also affordable in the long term? Stiftung Warentest tested 22 surveillance cameras with prices ranging from 40 to 300 euros - 15 for outdoors and 7 for indoors.

Product details
5-in-1 - the Eyes indoor camera II with the Audio+* service and retractable camera head is an independent small alarm system for burglary and fire protection: it recognises specific people and informs them via push message with a live image, while also sounding a loud alarm thanks to the integrated siren and providing a visual warning with a red LED light. The smart camera also recognises suspicious noises via Audio+: if it hears smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors or breaking glass panes, it also sounds the alarm.
*Optional additional function in the Audio+ package.

- Automatically retractable lens
- Good connection to the Bosch Smart Home
- Worst video quality tested
- Cloud storage manager
- more costs extra
The most expensive indoor camera tested commands respect: the lens extends out of the housing impressively and the Eyes II even sounds a loud alarm as soon as it detects movement. The video and voice quality were less well received by the testers. What's more, the free cloud storage only holds 15-second clips for seven days - and is quickly full...
- Very good picture quality
- Motor retraction for privacy
- Tight integration with Bosch Smarthome and third-party platforms
- in basis free cloud service
- Motion detection with zones and animal/human discrimination
- Intercom

- Large field of view of 145° diagonal, 130° horizontal and 70° vertical
- Person and noise detection
- Can be integrated into the Bosch Smart Home System
- Perfectly finished, pleasing design
- Push notifications partly unreliable
- Weaknesses with backlight
