What is FLIRC?
FLIRC is a USB infrared receiver that works on all platforms such as Windows, Mac, or Linux. The special feature of FLIRC is that it is compatible with 99% of all infrared remote controls, whether it's an Apple Remote, Sony BRAVIA remote, or a VCR remote.
How does FLIRC work?
FLIRC simply connects to your computer via a USB interface and is recognized by your operating system as a keyboard. No special drivers are required for the installation of FLIRC. You only need to familiarize FLIRC with your remote control once. This is done using a configuration program that you can download for free.
How does the configuration process work?
The configuration is very simple and takes just a few minutes. In the configuration program, you can choose between different controllers (arrow keys, full keyboard, Boxxee, XBMC, or Windows Media Center). You then click on a button in the program that you want to record and press the button on the remote control that you want to assign to that command. You can teach both individual keyboard commands and key combinations!
Where is the configuration stored?
The configuration of FLIRC is not stored on the computer but in the dongle itself. However, it is still possible to create a backup of the configuration and transfer it to another device.
How many commands can FLIRC store?
Approximately 160
Can I use FLIRC with the Raspberry Pi?
Yes! FLIRC works seamlessly with the Raspberry Pi. You just need to configure your remote control with FLIRC on a PC or Mac beforehand.
