The BEC battery back-up 20A is designed to protect the receiver power supply when using a controller with BEC function. If the BEC power supply of the ESC briefly collapses or fails completely, the receiver and servos are supplied by the connected back-up battery. Without such a BEC backup, a failure of the BEC function in the controller would lead to a total failure of the entire receiver system.

The BEC battery backer 20A switches the backup battery in parallel to the BEC of the controller. If the main current is drawn from the ESC BEC, the voltage of the BEC must be higher than that of the connected battery. Since the voltage of today's BECs can usually be adjusted, selecting compatible batteries is straightforward. If the main energy is taken from the connected battery (which must be appropriately dimensioned) and the ESC only serves to protect the battery, the receiver battery used must have a higher voltage than the ESC. In this configuration, the battery is protected against failure by the BEC function. The battery must have sufficient capacity for the total power supply of the model, as it provides the total energy for the receiver system and servos.

When using a 4-cell NiMH battery (approximately 5-5.5V) as a backup battery, the BEC of the controller should be set to 6V. LiFe batteries should be set to 6.5V, and LiPo batteries (2 cells) to at least 8V.
