Architecture Transformed

The book examines the central role of the digital image in architecture over four decades – in the process of digitizing knowledge in theory and practice – as well as its influence on architectural design and visualization. The transition from the analog to the digital age is analyzed through 51 design visualizations, ranging from hand drawings to hybrid methods and computer rendering, to illustrate the media-specific shaping of architecture through digital methods. Architecture Transformed is the result of a collaboration between the German Documentation Center for Art History – Image Archive Photo Marburg and the Chair of Architecture and Visualization at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, as part of the DFG priority program "The Digital Image." It covers the practice of the digital image in architecture with essays and 51 design visualizations, including works by David Chipperfield, Odile Decq & Benoît Cornette, Gramazio & Kohler, Herzog & de Meuron, Greg Lynn, Jean Nouvel, and Oswald Mathias Ungers, accompanied by explanatory and in-depth texts.
