If you have an iPhone, the AirTags are the most recommended key finders. At least this is true in urban areas, because every iPhone extends the search range. The AirTags are by far the most accurate, but this comes at the cost of range.

Apple's AirTag is the best tracker, but it only works with iPhones. Samsung is the closest with its SmartTag+, but it is also limited to the manufacturer's own devices. For those who want to save a few euros and can do without UWB for close range, the SmartTag without Plus as a price-performance winner is an alternative. The trackers from Tile and Chipolo are not convincing.

You can twist and turn it however you like - the Apple Airtags are cooler and easier to integrate into the Apple universe. Our impression is: If you want to have it easy and also always have the orientation of where approximately the tracker is currently, you are better served with the Apple Airtags, but you have to accept additional costs for attaching them to certain objects...

AirTags are a blessing for forgetful users with a current iPhone: Within their own four walls, they amazingly accurately point the way to the sofa seat where the key ring they were looking for has slipped. And tracking down an AirTag lost on the road was also surprisingly quick. This is where it pays off that the searcher has millions of helpers: all iPhone users with iOS 13 or higher.
