Art.no.: 510002799 Art.description: 1:48 F-86E Sabre Size of model: 23,8 cm SUPER decal The single-jet fighter Sabre F-86 was developed by the North American Aviation Company in the late 1940s and became a symbol of post-war aviation. The fighter is characterised by its typical arrow wings, large front air intake and the use of the General-Electric J47 jet engine. Its airspeed and performance were optimal for the time and differed significantly from those of fighter aircraft with the traditional piston engine. It was armed with 6 Browning M3 12.7 mm calibre machine guns installed in the nose. It was widely used by the U.S.A.F. and took an active part in the Korean War, where it was directly confronted by the Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich Mig-15 fighter and sparked the first "dogfights" between jet aircraft in aviation history. The F-86 proved to be extremely efficient and many pilots distinguished themselves by shooting down numerous enemy aircraft and qualifying as "aces".
