    Replacement firewall cisco rv082

Hello to the round My cisco rv082 sometimes bucks and sometimes shows the red error LED. I don't think it's going to last that long. What is a good replacement? Approximately in the same price segment. Please NOT Zyxel.... they are so complicated. Cisco was a pure joy to use. Thank you for your input and any reports on your experiences. Markus

    Netgate products with pfSense

Hi digitec team, perhaps you would like to take a look at the Netgate products and include them in the range? However, I can't say whether I would buy one - I will probably virtualise pfSense.

    Firewall for Gigabit connection

Maybe there are some good recommendations from the community: I will be changing ISPs soon and would like to use my own firewall in the future so that I can control VPNs through it and make certain rules for access from outside. Question: Which firewall is suitable for a glass gigabit connection? Gigabit is no use if the firewall only has 100 Mbit/s throughput. I will not use services such as AV, IDP, etc. Thanks for your suggestions. PS: Maybe it will only be a 500/500 connection...

    Firewall, router, or...?

Hello network experts, I have a 20Mbit internet line, my computer with Windows firewall/virus protection is connected via Wifi to a small cheap router. So far, data security has not been an issue, and I have never had a virus or the like for years. However, as I work on more and more company documents at home and access the company network from outside, I am concerned that something could leak out... What would be most sensible in my case? Thanks for the help!

    Specify VLAN

For routers as well as firewalls, it would be useful if the VLAN function could also filter.

I have a FortiGate 60D in the company network that is getting on in years and I would like to replace it. The only open source of FortiGates is in Germany and even they cannot currently supply the current successor FortiGate 60F. I would prefer a solution that is freely available. We have 2 UniFi APs, and about 50 clients (wireless and wired), the FortiGate is currently connected with a modem to the ISP with 2Gbit. Besides a decent firewall for business, the most I need is VPN and the ability to create VLANs. Ubiquiti USG and Dreammachine can be smoked according to many user reports. My question is, what is cost-effective (approx. 600.--) and recommendable for our situation? Maybe there are routers that have a comparable firewall functionality as a hardware firewall? (The Edgerouter would fit the APs, but it is questionable whether the firewall can protect a company network properly, since it is rather consumerware).
Good day the EXPERTS I would like to know what is the difference between a firewall and a router? Is a firewall also a router? A router is often also a firewall. Most firewalls also offer NAT which is for routing and firewalls also offer OSPF etc. other routing protocols. So it is also a router? The firewall distribution PfSense can have all kinds of settings (NAT, OSPF...) although it is a firewall and not a router, as Wikipedia says. Does it make sense to buy a router and a firewall at all? Thanks for clarifying the questions. Greetings Nicolas
