If you also use the power, you can't go far wrong with the price/performance ratio.
After I updated the BIOS so that the board also recognises PCI-e Gen 4 SSDs, everything ran smoothly and very quickly. Overclocking also works great from Windows if you install the "Ryzen Master" programme. To use my SSD from the previous computer, I had to activate the Compatibility Support Module (CSM) in the BIOS (as described in the manual) and set Boot Device Control to Legacy.
My old i7-4790k struggled plenty in Davinci Resolve with encoding 4 simultaneous FullHD streams, while the 3900x remains relaxed even when fast-forwarding 5 FullHD streams at 8x speed.
Paired with the G.Skill Trident Z RGB (2x, 16GB, DDR4-3600, DIMM 288), I'm very happy with the performance and the lighting (RGB everywhere). That still leaves 2 slots for a later upgrade to 64GB RAM. The CPU uses dual-channel anyway and Davinci Resolve sometimes needs more than 24GB RAM.
In case anyone is interested: I have two GTX 970s running in SLI and haven't had any problems so far. Based on benchmarks, the performance is around 170-180% compared to a GTX 970. I have completely reinstalled the NVIDIA drivers so that all changes for my previous configuration have been reset.
Now the only question I have is which apps I can still start to bring the CPU to its knees... Maybe a benchmark or prime95 in the background???
