What's the value in good hardware coupled with the worst (Beta at most) operating system? The software is buggy, unresponsive at times, advertised features (by the manufacturer, not by digitec) don't work and Nokia support (HMD Global) is a total waste of time (writing over 40 emails back and forth being presented constantly with same standard problem solving procedure over and over again). If you are thinking about buying ANY KaiOS device: DO NOT BUY, EXCEPT FOR ONE USE CASE:
you want the most stupid phone available coupled with a hotspot capability. That "usually" works. Don't expect anything further despite being advertised as a feature by the manufacturer:
- synching Google Calendar is not functional
- synching Google Contacts is not functional (to be fair here: not 100% non-functional)
- synching Gmail "seems" fine, although it sort of relies on existing contacts (see above)
- a lot of apps available on the Kai OS store are so bad, you're lucky if you find out that they just don't work so that you don't waste your time with them (I even ended up writing some webapps my own just to mimic Kai OS built in functionalities)
Kai OS phones have one big advantage over most others though: it's a good choice to disconnect from technology. With a phone like this you keep thinking whether you really want your phone with you or not.
