  • Good, but not perfect

You get what you pay for. A good introduction to the world of 4K HDR that does a good job. Especially with a connected 4K UHD Blu-Ray player, of course, it's a blast, but Netflix via Apple TV 4K is also worth watching. The TV image of 720 - 1080p via cable receiver falls a little short, of course, but that's not the projector's fault.

The 24p film mode is also positive, as is the picture quality with active HDR. On the other hand, the "HDR simulation", i.e. that the projector extrapolates a "non-HDR image" to an "HDR image", is clearly not as good. Please switch off this function.

Mounting is easy, in my case the projector hangs on the ceiling. You can use lens shift to adjust the image horizontally a little, but that's it. The throw ratio is very good; at a distance of around 3m, the projector conjures up a 120-inch image. And with a zoom, even a larger image would be possible.

Rather negative are the volume and the fiddly Wi-Fi connection, which sometimes works better and sometimes not at all. But except for firmware updates, I don't need it.

    Pro

    • 4K HDR support at 50+60Hz
    • Film mode (24p)
    • Relatively simple assembly
    • good throw ratio
    • Good picture in a darkened room

    Contra

    • somewhat loud, especially at 4K 60Hz
    • WLAN connection is a bit of a crapshoot
    • Picture in bright conditions (but which projector is not like that...)
  • No recommendation for this price

Better buy the Epson TW6600 or the follow-up TW7000 4K. No more Optoma for me. Satisfaction will be higher with another brand. @digitec: For me this is clearly a DOA. Unfortunately not accepted by a not very motivated salesman in SG. Unfortunately I didn't have time to return it straight away but had to wait until the following Saturday. After all, I am working. Unfortunately I threw away the OVP (that's why no DOA?). Who could have predicted that such an expensive projector would be a total disaster?
Customer service: Thanks for the great customer service. A little bumpy at first but then everything went smoothly. Very friendly staff. Thank you very much. 6 stars for Digitec.

    Pro

    • none

    Contra

    • expensive
    • Light frame outside the actual image
    • Software error
    • Crashes every hour
  • Good home cinema projector with little functionality

The UHD52ALV replaces my 11-year-old Sanyo PLV-Z3000 (HD resolution). The big wow effect did not happen when I switched. The Optoma has a little more luminosity and a higher resolution. Otherwise, I could have kept the Sanyo. The Sanyo was even a little quieter than the Optoma. With a sound level meter (not smartphone) I measured 32 dBA in quiet mode, 42dBA in 'loud/bright' mode. I had to mount the Optoma about a metre closer to the screen because the zoom range is weaker in the telephoto direction. On the other hand, the wide-angle range is much better for large screens.
Attention, the projector must be mounted horizontally. It has no keystone correction. There is only a mechanical shift function to correct the image vertically (Vertical Lens Shift). However, this is helpful to adjust the image exactly to the screen.
It has no locking functions for the settings (beamer is operated by AirBnB guests). They can therefore simply reset the lamp hour counter and adjust everything else. It also has only three apps. There is no App Store and thus no interesting functionalities. It is worth getting an up-to-date Apple TV or at least Chromecast.
The UHD52ALV is sometimes compared with the highly praised UHD3200. However, the technical data alone show that it is not exactly the same device.
I think the Optoma is a good device. However, if you are looking for the ultimate home cinema projector, you will have to spend more.
The Optoma works with the Logitech Harmony Elite remote control (just specify model UHD51).

    Pro

    • Beautiful colours
    • Clear picture
    • Good contrast
    • Vertical Lens Shift
    • Table and ceiling operation possible
    • Handy remote control

    Contra

    • You can hear the fan quite well (32dBA)
    • Little range of functions
    • No keystone correction
    • WLAN pairing only works after several attempts
  • Bemaer does not find resolution

The projector meets the requirements, but nothing more. If I were to buy a new projector, I would buy an Epson projector. The operation is awkward. The projector searches for the right resolution for minutes every time it is switched on, which takes forever. The beamer also loses the Wi-Fi connection again and again.

    Pro

    • Picture quality

    Contra

    • Operation
  • Great picture but not hassle free.

Brightness and colors are very nice. Wifi connectivity took a while to figure out. Apps are not super useful. Not yet successful with wireless projecting from computer and phone worked for only some apps. Still learning. Also, throw distance is shorter than my previous projector so I have to move my ceiling mount by nearly a meter closer to the screen. Not fun.

    Pro

    • Brightness
    • Contrast (not perfect though)

    Contra

    • Throw distance made for smaller rooms
