500 studios competed for the chance to develop a new game for NBCUniversal. Zurich-based Gbanga won with "Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion". The multiplayer tactical game has now been released and one of the developers is showing me what it's all about. The livestream starts at 2 pm.

Game studios from all over the world submitted their prototypes to the Universal GameDev Challenge 2018. The aim was to submit a playable concept for one of five iconic Universal worlds. The competition included "Back to the Future", "Jaws", "Battlestar Galactica", "Voltron Legendary Defender" and "Turok". The winner received 150,000 dollars in prize money.

In the end, the Zurich-based studio Gbanga came out on top, developing a game based on the Netflix anime series "Voltron Legendary Defender" by Dreamworks. Recently, "Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion" is now available on Steam as Early Access.

"Voltron" is a real-time tactics game in which two players duel each other. The aim is to destroy the opponent's base and protect your own at the same time. To do this, you build constructions from various cubes with different properties. Some shoot fireballs, others freeze your opponent's cubes and others send out attack threats. The game offers a huge number of tactical possibilities. And you have to be on your toes to fend off attacks and not get too defensive yourself.

If you feel a little overwhelmed at first, you're like me. Even the computer opponents made me sweat. That's why I hope Andreas Halter from Gbanga not only wipes the floor with me during his visit, but also gives me a few tips on how to triumph in future multiplayer duels.

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
