"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 Remaster": Skate again in September

The completely overhauled "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 Remaster" will be released on 4 September. Two games in one, with a new look, new features and almost all the original songs.
Fans have been clamouring for a sequel to the cult skate series for years. In 1999, "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater" triggered a huge hype for skate, BMX and surf games. In recent years, the genre has become relatively quiet. Now Pro Skater Tony Hawk himself has unveiled the upcoming remaster.
"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 Remaster" kicked off the Summer Game Fest, a digital game event that runs from May to August and where new games are presented at regular intervals. Pretty much all well-known developers and publishers take part. Thursday evening, an 18-minute gameplay video for "Ghost of Tsushima" from the studio Sucker Punch, known for the "Infamous" series, will follow.

An uncompromising remake
But back to "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 Remaster". In a livestream on Tuesday evening, Tony Hawk spoke with host Geoff Keighley, who organises the Summer Game Fest, about his upcoming skate game. The remaster includes the first two titles and will be released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on 4 September. It includes all the original levels like the iconic Warehouse, where you and I kissed the ground countless times.

In addition to Tony Hawk, all the other skate legends such as Rodney Mullen, Bucky Lasek and Bob Burnquist will also be included as playable characters. Fans of the series will also be delighted: Most of the songs from the past have also been licensed again. You can look forward to rocking out to "Guerilla Radio" by Rage Against The Machine or "Superman" by Goldfinger. A task not to be underestimated. Otherwise, you can once again grind freely over rails, crack high scores and of course collect all the letters for SKATE. There will also be additional challenges.
In addition to the much prettier design, which has been redeveloped from scratch, the gameplay has also changed a lot. In addition to new tricks such as reverts, which were actually only available in the later parts, this particularly affects the controls. The Playstation 1, on which the first part was released, initially had no analogue sticks. Of course, things are different on today's consoles, which is why the development team had to pay particular attention to this.

"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 Remaster" supports both online multiplayer and local split screen. And you can also create your own levels again. The tool has also been significantly upgraded and now even allows you to make changes to the game world itself and not just add ramps and boxes.
Alongside publisher Activision, Vicarious Studios is responsible for the implementation. They have already ported several "Tony Hawk" games and developed some of them themselves, such as "Underground". We can only hope that the remaster will be better than the last HD remake or part 5, both of which were not very popular with fans. The original developers Neversoft, who can also count the "Guitar Hero" series among their portfolio, disbanded back in 2014.
As a bonus, you can also check out Jack Black's YouTube video in which he tries out the latest instalment together with Tony Hawk.

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
