The Motorola Razr returns, and this time we know the date
At last, foldable phones are becoming a reality. After Samsung, Motorola is the second company to launch the Razr on the international market.
Remember the Motorola Razr? Back then, clamshell phones were the norm. Over time, Motorola went from group to brand, wandering somewhere in the middle with potable smartphones.
But that's ancient history.
The new Motorola Razr will be unveiled on November 13. At least that's what a invitation issued by the group for an event in Los Angeles suggests.
The invitation by menu
The invitation to the Los Angeles event doesn't leave much room for doubt. Right next to the slogan is the following video without sound:
The video shows the hinge of the old Motorola Razr coming off to reveal a new hinge.
The slogans then dispel any hesitation:
- "You're going to flip" → flip phones were at the time called Flip Phone in the US;
- "An original unlike any other" → mystery, but the slogan makes sense in context;
- "highly anticipated unveiling of a reinvented icon" → "dévoilement très attendu d'une icône réinventée."
Can we still have any doubts? Not really, it's crystal clear.
What does the rumour say?
Meanwhile, the rumour mill is churning. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, the phone won't open like a book, but on the top edge, like good old clamshell phones.
Technology magazine CNET, has come up with the following specifications (Video Autoplay Warning):
- price: US$1,500 excluding VAT;
- 6.2-inch screen;
- SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 ;
- colours: white, black and gold;
- battery: 2730 mAh ;
- RAM: 4 GB or 6 GB ;
- memory: 64 GB or 128 GB.
If the rumours are true, Motorola's flagship phone will therefore take the top spot price-wise, but specification-wise it will remain mid-range.
