Development of the Surface devices

Microsoft is reducing CO2 emissions by recycling and reusing more and more materials such as aluminium alloys and rare earth metals for Surface PCs. 1, 2 As a result, CO2 emissions per housing have been reduced by around 78% for the latest devices. Microsoft has also set itself the goal of using only CO2-free electricity by 2030, which is why 40% of the most important device providers have already switched to CFE in 2024.

A power supply unit is also no longer required, as the laptops can simply be charged via USB-C. This means that emissions can be further reduced by not producing the part and the smaller packaging dimensions. The devices are also more efficient than ever thanks to the Snapdragon processors from Qualcomm built into them. They have a lot of power with less energy consumption. Environmentally friendly shipping

By 2025, all single-use plastics have been removed from Surface product packaging to reduce plastic waste. The cardboard is made from primary fibre paper sourced from responsibly managed forests. The rest of the packaging is made from wood fibre, which consists of at least 70% recycled content.
