The "Surface Laptop" and the "Surface Pro" are now available in a slimmed-down version for smaller budgets. The screen diagonal is slightly smaller and the Snapdragon processor used is slightly weaker.

Microsoft has unveiled new versions of its Copilot Plus computers, «Surface Laptop» and «Surface Pro». Among other things, they are slightly smaller (and lighter) than the variants that have been available on the market for some time.

Both models are powered by the «Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100» processor. Instead of the ten or twelve cores of its larger siblings, it only has eight processing cores. Like all Copilot Plus computers, the processor also has an NPU for AI calculations on board. The AI functions are designed to support you in everyday life.

The new models could be of interest to you if you attach more importance to good transportability and have lower performance requirements. The computers will be available from 10 June.

Both «Surface» devices are charged via USB-C. Microsoft has therefore dispensed with the proprietary «Surface Connect» interface. A power supply unit is not included in the scope of delivery.

«Surface Pro» with 12 inches

The «Surface Pro» is a 2-in-1 device that bridges the gap between tablet and laptop. Using the separately available keyboard (see below), you can transform the tablet into a laptop. My colleague Martin will soon be writing a review of the new «Surface Pro».

The screen diagonal of the new variant is twelve instead of 13 inches. The device comes with 16 gigabytes of RAM and an SSD memory with 256 or 512 gigabytes of capacity. It weighs around 690 grams. According to Microsoft, the battery life is up to 16 hours with video playback only.

The hybrid device is available in three colours.

Microsoft states that the device is compatible with any USB-C power supply that delivers at least 27 watts.

If you want to use your «Surface Pro» as a drawing and notepad, you will need the «Surface Slim Pen». The pen can be magnetically attached to the back of the display, where it is also charged.

The keyboard for the new «Surface Pro» with Swiss layout is available as a bundle including pen or only with pen storage. According to Microsoft, you can also use the «Surface Pro» with keyboard as a tablet without any problems: The keyboard should now fold down completely and lay flat against the back of the display.

«Surface Laptop» with 13 inches

The «Surface Laptop» is now also available with a 13-inch diagonal - smaller than the previous 13.8- and 15-inch models. The battery is said to provide up to 23 hours of video playback - a record for a Surface device, according to Microsoft. The classic laptop with a fixed keyboard and aluminium casing is available in three colours.

You have the same choice of memory variants as with the «Surface Pro»: you can get the laptop with 16 gigabytes of RAM and 256 or 512 gigabytes of main memory.

The «Surface Laptop» is around 1.5 centimetres thick and weighs 1.25 kilograms. A fingerprint sensor is integrated into the power button. According to Microsoft, you can charge the laptop with any USB-C power supply that delivers at least 40 watts.

In addition to the laptop, Microsoft recommends the «Surface Arc Mouse», a slim and lightweight Bluetooth mouse. It should fold flat and therefore be easy to store in your bag.
