NVIDIA's RTXs were unveiled a few weeks ago, and now the wind has died down and the first reviews are coming in. How much faster are the Turing cards than the Pascal architecture?

The price had already taken our breath away. Now we'd like to know if the performances will manage to nail it. The media tornado died down on Wednesday and the first reviews are in. This summary speaks for itself.

4K, HDR gaming at premium prices

The various portals and YouTube channels had almost exclusive access to NVIDIA's Founders Edition: the RTX 2080 and its faster version, the RTX 2080 Ti. However, NVIDIA has postponed the delivery of the cards and the publication of the reviews, possibly to sort out a few problems with the drivers. In any case, testers are unanimous: the 2080 is only slightly faster than the GTX 1080 Ti, but costs a lot more. The real star of the series is the RTX 2080 Ti. It's on average 30% faster than the GTX 1080 Ti in 4K, HDR, Ultra games.

Some tests need to be put into perspective, however, as they were carried out with the Founders Edition of the GTX 1080 Ti. Custom cards generally perform better, but the RTX 2080 Ti retains its huge advantage.

Some games still manage to bring the fastest graphics card to its knees. With the very famous and demanding "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided", even the 2080 Ti drops below 60 fps. The same goes for "GTA V", which also shows its colours on the new cards with its huge world and countless NPCs.

PC Games Hardware also ran tests with in extreme configuration with 5K resolution. The RTX 2080 Ti came out on top again.

Patience for raytracing and the RTX 2080 Ti

Some games that support raytracing are certainly in the starting blocks with "Shadow of the Tomb Raider", "Battlefield V" and "Metro: Exodus", but only two of them are expected to be released this year. In "Shadow of the Tomb Raider", a patch should be activated soon. So buyers can't test the most interesting feature at the moment.

While the RTX 2080 is already available, NVIDIA has delayed delivery of the Ti model by another week. But we should finally get them next week.

As a child, I wasn't allowed to have any consoles. It was only with the arrival of the family's 486 PC that the magical world of gaming opened up to me. Today, I'm overcompensating accordingly. Only a lack of time and money prevents me from trying out every game there is and decorating my shelf with rare retro consoles.
