Razer introduces a dock for MacBooks

Gaming hardware manufacturer Razer wants to secure market share in the hybrid working field. Consequently, they’ve released a new dock for laptops and a USB charger.
The hybrid work era is here, thanks to the end of the Corona pandemic. Tasks should be able to be done from anywhere. You should be able to arrive at your workstation – at home or in an office building – plug into your laptop and just work.
Razer noticed a niche.
Which is why the hardware manufacturer, previously focused on gaming, now also produces laptop docks. At launch, Razer naturally targets those without ports: Apple MacBook users.
Ten connections, one asterisk
The Razer Thunderbolt 4.0 Dock Chroma offers Apple disciples ten ports:
- 4x Thunderbolt 4 or USB-C.
- 3x USB-A 3.2 Gen 2.
- 1x Gigabit Ethernet.
- SD Card Reader, UHS II.
Razer’s gaming roots are evident if you look at the monitor ports: you can connect up to two screens, each of which will then be capable of up to 4K/60 fps, or one 8K/30 fps monitor.
But be warned: the Chroma Dock only offers these ten ports. You’ll have to sacrifice two Thunderbolt ports for two displays. The dock includes no separate display connections such as HDMI or Display Port.

The Chroma Dock comes in black and white, or «Mercury» if you go by Razer, as well as – of course – LED lighting. A feature that can send chills down any Apple designer’s spine.
The device is also compatible with Windows. By the way.
Need a charger?
Naturally, Razer knows you don’t just have one Apple device. You own an iPhone, an iPad, and a MacBook. All these devices need to be charged. Which is why Razer has now also launched a gallium nitride (GaN) charger. At 130 watts, it can charge up to four devices at the same time. Two via USB-C, two via USB 3.0.
The wall plug for this GaN charger can be exchanged, and thus used when travelling.
