Pokémon "Scarlet" and "Violet" coming to the Switch later this year
The Pokémon Company informs. The spotlight is on the new Pokémon games: Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. But there is also news about "Pokémon Arceus", "Go" and "Unite".
Hardly anyone had expected this announcement: The next Pokémon game for the Switch will be released at the end of 2022. The Pokémon Company announced this last Sunday via live stream on Pokémon Day. The names of the latest iterations: "Scarlet" and "Violet". There was also the first trailer:
Developer Game Freak describes the game with a deliberately chosen pun as "a new evolutionary stage in the main Pokémon series." Trainers will explore an open world, just like in "Pokémon Legends: Arceus" - reviewed here - but this time with different cities and without a loading screen, which made the transition into the wilderness anything but seamless. At the beginning, of course, you get to choose one of three starter Pokémon again:
- Sprigatito, the grass cat Pokémon.
- Fuecoco, the Fire Crocodile Pokémon
- Quaxly, the duckling Pokémon

Updates also to "Arceus," "Go" and "Unite"
The Pokémon Company took the opportunity to announce a first, big software update 1.1.0 to the just released "Pokémon Legends: Arceus". The update is called "Daybreak", is already available for download and contains a new, large story quest. In addition, the company said it is in the process of developing a new animated series set in the Hisui region.
Also part of the live stream was the announcement of a new update for the mobile game "Pokémon Go". According to the update, small monsters from the Alola region will appear in the game for the first time from March 1 - i.e. Pokémon from "Sun" and "Moon". The MOBA spin-off "Pokémon Unite" will also get some new features.
The most important of these is a mode with new, even more intense battles - so-called "Fury Battles". Except in ranked games, all cool-downs, regeneration and respawn times will be significantly reduced to ensure particularly spectacular fights. The update is already available here as well. Small bonus: Anyone who starts the game today, February 28, will get an exclusive in-game Pokémon Day outfit: a rather unspectacular cap and a T-shirt.
