Now available: the DJI Osmo Nano mini action cam

The DJI Osmo Nano is a lightweight camera for spontaneous and creative shots. You can wear it around your neck or on your cap visor, for example.
The Chinese manufacturer DJI has been building more than just camera drones for a long time. The company has been pushing into the market for action cams for some time and is now launching the Osmo Nano, a tiny camera that offers great creative freedom. You can buy the device with 64 and 128 gigabytes of onboard memory. The memory can be expanded to up to one terabyte using a micro SD card.
The cam is for you if you want to try out unusual perspectives. At around 52 grammes, you can hang it around your pet's (or your own) neck or clip it to your cap. Then you have your hands free while recording.
Versatile mounting options and detachable display
The difference to larger action cams is the versatility of the mounting options: The Osmo Nano is magnetic and adheres to suitable surfaces. A neck strap with a magnetic surface is included: This allows you to simply attach the thumb-sized device to your T-shirt. The scope of delivery also includes a hat clip and a suction cup holder.
Another special feature compared to DJI's other cameras in the Osmo series is the «Vision Dock»: a battery extension with a 1.96-inch display and remote control. When you clip the camera into the dock, it is recharged. You can use the camera with or without the dock and it's up to you whether you orientate the display to the front or back.
The two parts communicate via Bluetooth, which allows you to view the camera live on the touchscreen of the display. You can also control the camera remotely and check its battery status. The integrated battery should last for up to 90 minutes of recording time under laboratory conditions. With the dock as a battery reserve, 200 minutes should be possible.
You can transfer the recordings to your smartphone via the «DJI Mimo» app. The software offers numerous editing options. You can also control the camera with your phone.
Other features: dives, slow motion and external microphones
The camera is waterproof up to ten metres, while the dock with IPX4 protection class only withstands splash water
With a 1/1.3-inch sensor, the Osmo Nano is quite well equipped for such a small camera. You can record 4K videos at up to 60 fps. In Full HD, up to 240 fps, i.e. eight times slow motion, are possible.
A special feature is the support for ten-bit colour depth, which allows the display of more than one billion colours compared to the usual eight bits. The camera is equipped with two internal microphones. You can also pair two external wireless microphones as an option.
If you want to know how the small camera performs in practice and, above all, in comparison to the competitor camera Insta360 Go Ultra: My comparison test of the two mini devices will appear here in the magazine shortly.
