Megadap ETZ11: adapter for Sony lenses on Nikon Z cameras

The new allows using E-mount lenses on the Nikon Z system – with autofocus and aperture priority.
The Nikon Z model is still relatively young, so there aren't too many lenses for it yet. Sony, however, likes to brag that it already offers a huge range of lenses for its own E-mount system.
These can also be connected to Nikon cameras with the new adapter ETZ11 by Megadap. The adapter, which is only 2 millimetres thick, also supports cameras with the smaller APS-C sensor, which Megadap says is unique so far. In addition, it’s also said to work with E-mount lenses by Sigma, Tamron and other third-party manufacturers.
What does «work» mean in this context?
- Autofocus, including continuous AF and eye and face recognition.
- Smooth focus transitions during video recording.
- Automatic aperture setting.
How quickly and reliably will this work? We don’t know yet. In general, you have to expect losing some functions if you use lens adapters by third-party manufacturers.
All existing Nikon Z cameras are supported. The adapter comes with a special USB cable that taps the contacts on the adapter to update the firmware. You’ll see this in the video below. Megadap charges $249 for the ETZ11.
