The second and final qualifier of digitec Playground Vol. 10 will take place this Saturday. The registration pages will be open until shortly before the start of the game.

No current game will be played at the tenth Digitec Playground Cup. Instead, we're unpacking a centuries-old board game. We're playing chess - and you can join in.

The second qualifier will take place on Saturday. Take part and compete with players from all over Switzerland. Click on the link below to register:

Allocation to the Pro or Grümpi tournament is automatic. Shortly before the tournament, participants will be divided into either the Grümpi or Pro tournament based on their Elo rating.

Don't want to play yourself, but would rather watch and analyse the moves of the chess pros? No problem. The two qualifiers of the Pro tournament and the two finals of the Pro and Grümpi tournaments will be broadcast live on Twitch and Youtube.

The whole thing will be moderated by our chess experts Lena Georgescu and Virginia Parrotta. Lena holds the FIDE titles of "International Women's Champion" and "FIDE Champion". She achieved the latter title in 2016, making her the youngest FIDE champion in Swiss chess history. Virginia is a Community Manager at Digitec and has been a passionate chess player for four years.

Roadmap Pro and Grümpi tournament

The following graphics show you how you can qualify for the finals and when the respective matches take place. The Grand Finals will take place offline in Zurich - the exact location will be communicated.

Who can take part
You must be resident in Switzerland or Liechtenstein or have a Swiss passport/ID.

How do I play?
The qualifiers will be played via the online platform Chess.com. The final will take place offline in Zurich.

How does the division into the Pro and Grümpi tournaments work?
All players register for the qualifier via the same link. After the closing date, the median rank of the participants will be determined. The participants are then automatically divided into the Pro or Grümpi tournament.

Which mode of play is used?

The game is played in rapid mode with 10 minutes + 2 seconds increment.

Is the number of participants limited?

No.

May I register for two qualifier rounds?Yes. If it doesn't work the first time, you can try again.
