Just in the shop: "PC Screen Mirror Lightstrip" from Nanoleaf for Ambilight effects on the computer

Nanoleaf promises screen backlighting on your computer without additional hardware. The lightstrip is connected directly to the computer.
To retrofit your computer screen with an Ambilight effect, you usually need a special controller box or a camera that analyses your screen content. If this puts you off, but you would still like to have the colourful backlighting, you could take a look at the PC Screen Mirror Lightstrip from Nanoleaf.

This solution requires no additional hardware. You stick the Lightstrip to the back of your up to 32-inch monitor and connect the USB-C cable to your computer. You control the screen mirroring effect using the Nanoleaf desktop app for Windows or Mac. The app is mandatory.
The light strip does not work with the Nanoleaf mobile app or with other mobile smart home applications such as Apple Home and Alexa. Nevertheless, the Lightstrip is compatible with other Nanoleaf lights - as long as you control your setup via the desktop app.
Aside from the screen mirror effect, the PC Screen Mirror Lightstrip can also play the beat of your music. You can also use the light scenes provided in the app or configure your own.
Easy installation
The 75 LEDs are mounted like a string of pearls on a narrow, ultra-flexible» strip, according to Nanoleaf «. This sets Nanoleaf's Lightstrip apart from others, which are usually inflexible. You should be able to run the self-adhesive tape along the corners of the monitor without loops or kinks.

The light strip is 2.5 metres long, which should be sufficient for screens up to 32 inches in size. You cannot extend the strip. If your display is smaller, cut the light strip at the indicated cut marks.
Restrictions due to copyright issues
The product FAQ states that the Ambilight effect may not be available for some series and films on streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video. Nanoleaf cites copyright restrictions on some content that block all screen recordings or mirroring applications as the reason for this.
Galaxus says: I like the ability to upgrade Ambilight without additional hardware. However, my computer doesn't have a USB-C port, so I would need an adapter. I also find the special shape of the light strip interesting: I've tried often enough to fit standard light strips around 90-degree bends and it really is a pain in the arse. A narrower, more flexible strip could simplify things.
