Just in the shop: Bose's multiroom speakers from the "Lifestyle" series
Single, stereo, multi-room and surround sound for home cinema: Bose is launching three versatile devices in the "Lifestyle" range.
With the «Lifestyle Collection», Bose is offering a new range of speakers for your home. It consists of a 360-degree speaker, a soundbar and a subwoofer. The three devices can be used individually, combined into a stereo system and synchronised as a multi-room setup or home cinema. They are each available in black and white.
Lifestyle Ultra Speaker
Bose advertises the Lifestyle Ultra Speaker as its «most versatile speaker». According to the manufacturer, it is designed to fill the room with powerful sound when used individually. Three drivers simulate spatial sound: two are directed forwards, one upwards. The combination of direct and indirect sound waves gives the impression of multiple sound sources. Bose therefore speaks of 360-degree sound.
You can pair two of these speakers to create a stereo sound system. Or you can integrate them into the surround system for your home cinema together with the soundbar and subwoofer.
The device is also multiroom-capable: if you distribute several speakers to different rooms, you can connect them to one sound source. Then you can listen to the same music everywhere. The Lifestyle Ultra Speaker also streams directly via Google Cast, Apple AirPlay or Spotify Connect.
Although it is a compact speaker measuring around 12 × 19 × 17 centimetres (W × H × D), it - like the other two products in the range - is designed to offer distortion-free sound with powerful bass. According to Bose, this is ensured by a technology called «CleanBass».
The connection is wireless via Bluetooth 5.3 or Wi-Fi 6, while there is a 3.5-millimetre jack connection for wired sources. You can control playback directly on the device or in the Bose app.
The Lifestyle Ultra speaker can be mounted on the wall or on a floor stand with optional brackets.
Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar
Bose seems to be particularly proud of this device: The soundbar offers the «loudest, deepest and most room-filling sound» that Bose has ever developed. It is intended for home cinema.
Nine drivers work inside to deliver 5.0.2 surround sound. Four are directed forwards, two upwards. There is also a central tweeter for dialogue and two special drivers that, according to Bose, emit sound waves horizontally through the room to create the impression of other speakers. If you combine the soundbar with two speakers behind the sofa and the bass module, you get a real surround system.
The device masters Dolby Atmos and reproduces room-filling sound even if the source does not provide any surround sound - at least that's what Bose promises. AI is designed to improve speech reproduction so that you can understand dialogue better.
The soundbar can be used via Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 as well as wired via HDMI eArc. It measures around 110 × 7 × 13 centimetres (W × H × D).
Lifestyle Ultra Bass Module
The subwoofer can also be used wirelessly via Wi-Fi 6, helping to reduce cable clutter in the living room. According to the manufacturer, the range is up to around nine metres. This gives you flexibility when positioning the bass module. Alternatively, you can connect it via a jack.
The subwoofer measures around 30 × 33 × 30 centimetres (W × H × D).
