Is anybody out there?

See that look on ET’s face? Kind of worried and hopeful at the same time? Well that’s exactly what I feel like right now.

Not only is this my first blog entry ever but what I’m about to ask is also a bit nerve-racking in terms of my professional life. I’m the English translator for digitec and Galaxus and have just been given the rare chance to drop my readers a line. Hadn’t realised you were reading translated texts*? Well in that case I would like to thank you very much for the huge compliment! A good translation should sound natural and therefore be invisible to readers. The downside of that is that it makes translators invisible, too. So dare I ask the question: Is anybody out there? Make yourself known and make my day by clicking on the heart or adding a comment! Thank you.

Hey! I'm over here! Thanks for all of the translating that you have done for us so far. May I dare to ask the question: What kind of certification/qualification do you need to make translating your profession? Thanks for everything.

Great to hear you're out there – thanks for hollering back! I've got a BA in multilingual communication from Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). I also have an English mum. That helps :)

Hey Jess,

I'm a native Swiss-German speaker, but in the company I work, everything is in English ^^
So I have you know, that there is at least one Swiss-German speaker who enjoys your translated texts =)

Have a good one,
Emanuel

Hi there
A couple of months ago I switched to English as my main language. I really appreciate the option for a English site. There's just one thing that really bothers me. Please change the Menu name "Enclosures & Power supply" to "Cases and Power supplies"
It sounds way better.
Thanks a bunch

Thanks for the heads-up, benjaminmue! I just changed it – "enclosures" does sound more like something to do with wild animals :). Our database still contains plenty of automatic translations but I'm on it!

Awesome. Thank you. I'ts been bothering me since I first saw it. Nobody says "Enclosure" when they mean a PC case. ;-)
Have a good one.

You're right Jessica, good translation is invisible. I'm a native English speaker and I didn't realise the texts were translated - I just assumed a chatty British person wrote the product descriptions from scratch... That makes it GREAT translation. Well done and keep up the good work!

Hi there Jess, so happy to interact with the person that makes my life easier. Really appreciate your hard work and how nice it is from digitec to share this information with us. I always feel shopping from a round the corner shop and this made my feeling stronger. Keep up the good work. Cheers!

Thank you and Digitec who realise they can tap into well heeled customers who find themselves in Switzerland and need products well described and within a purchasing portal that is understandable
