HDMI 2.1 chaos update: has LG solved its VRR problem?

Wonders will never cease! LG seems to have solved its VRR problem that originated with HDMI 2.1. Apparently, a firmware update is on its way. To be released... sometime soon.
LG reports to have solved its VRR problem. One day after I wrote in my chronicles of the HDMI 2.1 chaos where I mentioned that something new happens on the HDMI 2.1 front almost every day.
LG's update is given by Vincent Teoh, professional TV calibrator, TV tester and recently self-proclaimed firmware update tester.
Firmware update still in a beta version
Here’s a quick recap: last September, John Archer, Forbes journalist, found out that LG's third-generation alpha9 HDMI 2.1 TVs are experiencing problems with variable refresh rates (VRR). How bad?
- Blurred grey in dark areas of the image when VRR is enabled.
- Flickering and juddering despite VRR.
Although many LG owners don’t seem to be experiencing such problems – my colleague and game editor Philipp is one of them – LG has admitted that the problem exists and has been working on a solution ever since.
And now they seemed to have found one.
Vincent Teoh, whose many followers have made him act as a messenger between users and TV manufacturers, has been allowed to test a first beta version of the firmware update 03.21.03.
The short version: LG’s firmware update seems to have improved the flickering and juddering problem, but not managed to eliminate the problem completely, as Vincent’s subtitles in the video show. The release date of the firmware update is unknown. Finger crossed that it will be available soon.
