digitec plays: Be Kimi Räikkönen for once at F1 2019

The real Formula 1 is hard to beat in terms of boredom this season. Thanks to Codemaster's new Formula 1 game, you can change that. Raphi and I try it out in the digitec livestream, starting at 1pm.

For a few years now, Codemasters has been publishing the official game for the world's most popular racing series. This year, the cars feel even more real and Formula 2 is also represented for the first time, albeit with teams and drivers from the 2018 season. Similar to FIFA or the NBA2K series, you can experience the rivalry between team-mates and other drivers up close in a story mode.

Get on the gas

After three predefined race stories in Formula 2, the real story begins in Formula 1. Your two rivals from the lower class also make the leap to the premier class, which is why the story continues there. Even if the story certainly won't win an Oscar, it's fun.

Other than that, the story mode is more of a career mode: In the training sessions, you can learn the tracks with small mini-games and earn XP points. These must be invested in research and development to improve the team car. So that - unlike in real Formula 1 - Williams also has a chance, the poorer teams have slightly better conditions and receive bonuses. If you join Ferrari or Mercedes straight away, you have a great car, but you don't get the bonuses. Nevertheless, Williams' team goals are not that you become world champion.

Alfa is not Ferrari

The driving dynamics of the various cars are very different. While the cars of the top teams are easier to control and have more drive, you have to drive really well in Alfa, Renault and the like to get the right results. This provides variety and a tough challenge. Only dead fish swim with the current, so I started my season at Alfa alongside "Iceman" Kimi Räikkönen.

As an ambitious racing professional, I drive without an ideal racing line, with manual gears and without driving aids, which was a big mistake at the beginning. Without track knowledge and a sure instinct, nothing works, so I slowly got to grips with F1 2019. It took me a while to find the ideal mix of driving aids, camera perspective and opponent AI.

I definitely recommend that you set the gearstick to manual and switch off the racing line. The feeling of driving a great lap without the coloured markings on the floor and automatic transmission is indescribably satisfying. Of course, I hardly ever manage this, which is why our preview stream should provide the best entertainment. From 1 p.m., you can watch Raphi and I torment ourselves on the racetracks of this world.

When I flew the family nest over 15 years ago, I suddenly had to cook for myself. But it wasn’t long until this necessity became a virtue. Today, rattling those pots and pans is a fundamental part of my life. I’m a true foodie and devour everything from junk food to star-awarded cuisine. Literally. I eat way too fast.
