In "Death Stranding 2: On the Beach", Hideo Kojima continues the story of Sam Porter Bridges. But this time it's not just about connections, but also about their price. The world seems stranger, more complex and more dangerous.

You know the feeling of isolation. Maybe it was the pandemic, maybe it was a personal crisis. In «Death Stranding» you experienced this isolation through play, as messenger runner Sam Porter Bridges, alone in a world torn apart. Now «Death Stranding 2» Hideo Kojima continues to develop his vision.

You can pre-order the game now for Playstation 5. It will be released on 26 June.

What is «Death Stranding 2» about?

The third-person action game «Death Stranding 2: On the Beach» is the direct sequel to the first part from 2019. Norman Reedus once again takes centre stage as Sam. Other well-known characters such as Fragile (Léa Seydoux) also return. New characters include Tomorrow, played by Elle Fanning. Their exact function remains open.

This time, the journey takes you beyond the borders of the USA in an open game world: to Mexico and Australia, for example. The plot remains cryptic. Hideo Kojima has only revealed a few details so far.

One thing is clear: «Beach» once again plays a central role. It is a metaphysical level that exists as an intermediate world between the world of the living and the afterlife. This is where the boundaries between life and death dissolve. Each person has their own individual beach, which often reflects their personality or experiences. In the game's lore, the beach is the place where souls linger after death before they can move on or return.

In a broader sense, the beach symbolises the core themes of the game: connection, isolation and the question of how much closeness or distance between people and worlds is good or dangerous. The story uses science fiction not as a backdrop, but as a tool for reflecting on the present and the future. You won't understand everything. That is intentional. At least that's how it was in the first part

Gameplay: less wandering, more risk

In the first part, the focus was on hiking. This is set to change in part two. Movement remains central, but is supplemented by more complex battles, tactical decisions and new means of transport. The game also integrates more stealth elements that are reminiscent of Kojima's earlier works, such as the «Metal Gear Solid» series.

The use of resources is also new. You not only have to deliver, but also defend, build and improvise. The world reacts more dynamically to your actions. According to the developers, decisions should have consequences, not just for you, but for entire regions.
