Children laughing in our warehouse in Wohlen

As part of the national "Future of All Kinds" day, 16 girls and boys got a glimpse of everyday life at Digitec Galaxus and were allowed to lend a hand in the warehouse and branch.
Children's laughter is something you wouldn't necessarily associate with a logistics centre. But on 10 November, they rang out in our warehouse. Anyone who thinks that because of the large volumes of orders we have to process we have taken on children can rest assured. The answer is NO. National Future of All Kinds Day was the reason why 16 girls and boys between the ages of six and twelve visited us. Every year, this day gives children the chance to see what men and women claim to be good or bad at, and to question preconceived ideas. The day helps them to choose a profession and broadens the future prospects of girls and boys. We too took part and allowed our employees to bring their children, nephews, grandchildren, etc. to work for the day.

After greetings and a brief explanation of safety instructions by Markus Urech, a tour of the premises was given. Using simple examples, we explained to the children how the warehouse works. For example, the cupboard in the house with its contents was used to explain storage in logistics. After all, you don't put your favourite T-shirt at the back of the cupboard if you use it more often than other items of clothing. After an hour, during which the various vehicles were mostly admired, the children were returned to their parents, uncles, aunts or acquaintances to immerse themselves in their activity.

After a long listen, the children were given the chance to get active and pack or serve customers in the branch. Of course, the "oh, so sweet" effect was often present, for example when the tables were a little too high or when the little guest couldn't reach the top shelves for order picking. Customers were also amused when a child's head, barely reaching over the counter, greeted them.

At lunchtime, there was pizza to get everyone's strength back. The aches and pains in the legs and such soon passed. In the afternoon, the children were able to show off what they had learnt in the morning. In a little treasure hunt, everyone drew a number. One by one, the little guests were launched into the adventure. Each child went through the warehouse with a list of products. The lists were divided into slots. On the first slot there was a label with an address, on the second a leaflet and on the third a cardboard box with our logo on it. At the end, our guests arrived at a shelf with products, removed, but great all the same. There, they were allowed to choose one and wrap it up with the others collected during the race. Of course, at the end of the day, the children were allowed to take the package home.

The day ended with a Q&A session where children and staff were able to ask each other questions. We'll keep a successful and interesting "Future of All Kinds" day in our memories. Who knows, maybe in a few years' time we'll be lucky enough to count some of our little guests among our Digitec Galaxus AG employees.
