Back again: Spotify's Android widget

Spotify has faced a shitstorm from the Community for removing the Android widget. At least the streaming supplier now seems to be listening to its users and wants to bring the widget back.
On its Community blog, Spotity explained briefly and concisely about a month ago that the on-screen widget would disappear with the current update. The widget was very popular with users. It allowed Spotify to be opened directly without the need for an extra tab. And music control was possible from the home screen.

Further down, Spotify's Community Manager added a description of how Spotify can be controlled via the control bar. As a quasi-replacement. However, this is not the same as a widget - and made many Spotify users angry. As soon as music playback is paused, the Spotify notification disappears and the app has to be opened again.
Spotify justified the removal by saying that they would invest the resulting resources in new ways to create the best experience for users. An ironic comment, considering that the missing widget is used by many users on a daily basis. Spotify has also noticed this.
After many protest posts in which users threatened to cancel their subscriptions, a Spotify manager contacted the forum and
confirmed that the widget will return in a future update.
Nice that the company is listening to its users after all - at least a little bit.

Testing devices and gadgets is my thing. Some experiments lead to interesting insights, others to demolished phones. I’m hooked on series and can’t imagine life without Netflix. In summer, you’ll find me soaking up the sun by the lake or at a music festival.
