The home control unit was broken. I wasted 4 hours with Devolo technical support trying to set this up - after it failed to work they asked me the serial number and then told me that there was a hardware fault with this batch of control units. Getting the replacement took weeks. The control unit and switch unit effectively have to be in the same room ... I have a switch unit in a next door room (approximately 10 m away) and it continually informs me that it has lost connection to the control unit.
