When connected to a supported Garmin GPS (310XT in my case), the pedometer allows the watch to display the run pace when the GPS satellite signal is missing. For example: when running during some race events in cities surrounded by high buildings such as the marathon leg during Zürich iron man).
In my case, the Garming pedometer is far more reliable than the Polar pedometer that I had to send to repair 3 times. No more Polar for me.
