The wifi stick interrupts the connection very quickly, do you know what the problem is?

I have a slightly older laptop from HP (Pavilion dv7-7135sz) with USB 2.0 port. The computer originally had Win7 installed, now Win 10. Could it be that the adapter is not working correctly on the hardware side and the laptop does not recognise the stick as a WLAN receiver?

You can connect to a WLAN and access the Internet, yes. You can also access the internet via Ethernet, but it's wired.
