Question about Synology DX517 Expansion Unit

Hello Digitec Community, I have a DS1515 with the DX513 expansion unit in use. Now one HDD is defective in the expansion unit. At least I thought so when I replaced it, the error was still there. I now strongly suspect that my DX513 is defective. Now my question, can I remove all the HDDs and install them in the DX517 without losing all the data? I am currently making a current backup just to be on the safe side.

Helpful answer
I would definitely not do that because the DMS has a file table for the raid in the DX517 that corresponds to the previous configuration of the HDs. If you install the HDs of the expansion unit in the DX517, the DMS can no longer create the raid and the data is lost.
This is a case for Synology support: https://www.synology.com/de-de... (solve a support ticket at the bottom). The support generally answers the questions in a reasonable period of time (1-2 days).

Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the relocation of the data, as I don't know much about it. Mueller123 had already answered that. I'm just not that happy with the DX517. I connected it to a DS918. With the WD disks everything ran well at first, but over time there were reconnections with the drive. First on one disk, then on several. In another DS, the drive no longer had the problem. Finally (after almost 2 years) the DX517 failed and was replaced under warranty. Now I have IronWolf disks in it. After 3 months of running, the reconnections started again. Although I had completely rebuilt the RAID. I will probably have to part with the DX517...

Thank you for the quick reply. Yes, I will get in touch with Synology. Unfortunately, it is not so easy to move to a new expansion unit.
