How is the device integrated into an existing bell? Do the two contacts function as a closing contact? I can't find any information in the instructions or on the Internet.

Yes, the Doorbell has two terminals to connect the best cables. Instructions in English can be found at https://www.arlo.com/en-us... and are shown on page 9.
