Will this router have a greater range than my current AUSS RT-AC66U? Speed is secondary, what is important is the range, which is currently a bit too short...

Difficult question to answer. The Netgear uses newer standards than your ASUS. With the appropriate receiver hardware, it should be fast. But whether it "transmits" further than the ASUS probably depends on a) how you place the device and b) how you align the antennas. If the antennas on your router are oriented as shown in the product images, you will generally have poor coverage.
