It will run for sure, but maybe some HW Monitor functions will not (SMART Test, Disk EcoMode,...) But almost all SATA drives will work. Only for the SSD there is hard list
I have the Seagate ST8000VN004-3CP101 in use as Raid 1. I don't see why the ST3000 shouldn't work. Under the bonnet of the Synology DS224+ is currently running Linux with kernel 4.4.302.
