Can the programme also be used for several devices, e.g. shared with a colleague?

Image-Line offers life-time updates anyway, you can buy FL Studio 12 and then also download FL 20.
I bought FL 11 back then and now work with FL 20.

I would say "Studio 20" is better because it is newer, and therefore has newer features, and longer support update cycle at. There is also a cheaper version for only 119.-. Image Line FL Studio 20 Fruity Edition
