Unlike HP, for example, Brother keeps the toner and the drum (in simple terms, the roller over which the paper is printed with the toner powder) separate. The drum survives much longer than a toner cartridge and therefore does not always need to be replaced. In the end, this should save costs and help the environment. The toner cartridges here are then latched into the drum unit. So you only have to change what the printer shows on the display.
