Looks like the ONKYO TX-NR696 cannot calculate PURE AUDIO or DIRECT mode for satellite speaker systems. I wanted to listen to my Vinylen treasures in PURE AUDIO and DIRECT. BUT: The TX-NR696 ONLY controls two satellites (DALI FAZON Micro + SUB E-9F). Stereo yes (!), but without the subwoofer! Couldn't find a setting for "small" speakers or "large" speakers anywhere in the BDA or in the setup. Can't let the fat basses loose on the small satellite speakers. Set crossover frequencies: - Subwoofer: 120Hz - Front: 100Hz (-12dB) I've been wondering for days. Maybe I have overlooked something? Otherwise, too bad.
This is the only thing I found, and I remember it from earlier amplifiers...
from the Onkyo FAQ:
I am using an Onkyo AV receiver with a satellite subwoofer system. In "Pure Audio Mode" the system sounds very thin - the bass is missing. What could be the reason for this?
The "Pure Audio Mode" is a special operating mode in which the highest value is placed on unadulterated sound through the front speakers.
In this mode, the "DSP" (Digital Sound Processor) is switched off and the full frequency range is routed to the front speakers on the left and right. It is not possible to separate the bass part by the bass management.
Therefore, the subwoofer pre-out also remains muted in this operating mode.
If you use small satellite speakers, you should use the operating mode "Stereo" instead of "Pure Audio".
... so probably rather a pity in your case. Sorry :)
