AVM FRITZ!Box 5490 Fiber
AVM FRITZ!Box 5490 Fiber
Is it possible to completely deactivate the router function and use the FB 5490 only as a "modem"? I already have a router in use, but I need the FB for the fibre connection.
Sali and a friendly jain - I had a similar problem because I have a dedicated firewall. I opened this address in the router, deactivated WLan and that's it. That means only one cable connection goes out to the firewall and from there on to the private network.
NO!
In contrast to many other FritzBOx models, you can NOT activate Transparent Mode or Bridge Mode with this device!
This means that if you want to have the public IP from the ISP on your own firewall (e.g. pfSense), then this box is unfortunately of no use. You can logically give an internal IP from the AVM box to your own firewall WAN port, and forward all ports in the FritzBox, BUT the firewall then has the internal IP and NOT the public IP. With many applications, this means that it is not recognised if, for example, the ISP fails and the firewall should switch to a backup!
ATTENTION: The unofficial trick, which works with many FritzBox models:
First save the Config of the FritzBox on PC, then with a text editor change the entry "lanbridges_gui_hidden = yes;" to "lanbridges_gui_hidden = yes;". to "lanbridges_gui_hidden = no;" and so on... does NOT work with this model!!!
