is this really faster than simply using an old (free) smartphone as an LTE hotspot (simply hotspot function on the mobile phone)? please only answers from people with experience

An important point is that the Fritzbox can be connected via LAN, which is much faster than any WLAN connection. Example of use: PC with CAM monitoring on LAN port NB and mobile phone via WLAN.

Of course, it depends on the reception at the place of use and on what kind of LTE modem the mobile phone has installed. The router supports LTE category 4, which corresponds to a maximum of 150 Mbit/s download. In addition, the router can transmit in WLAN, i.e. locally, up to a maximum of 450 Mbit/s, which is certainly more than a smartphone can do. The transmission rates are always theoretical and cannot be fully achieved in reality, but at least give an indication.
