Is this compatible with the Synology DS1817+ (not listed)? Is there an alternative expansion with more hard drives? Can WD Red with 8TB be used?

And on the question of the 8 TB. Yes, the WD Red 8 TB can be installed (max is 16 TB / Total 80 TB). As far as I know, there is another model with 12 discs in this device category. It's best to check directly at https://www.synology.com.
