Is my soundbar broken or is sound really only coming out of the top two openings? Because if I cover them, I don't hear any mux from the front tweeters. I tried it via optical and USB. No difference...

Yes, it's normal, the "standard" sound comes out of the 2 upper speakers. The other 2 speakers are "tweeters" which only handle a part of the sound frequencies.
It is a 2.1 system.

Try a mobile phone or another source, then you will notice that everything is OK :)
