Is it worth using M2SSDs as a volume? (the DS723+ now supports this) Or is this overrated and SATA SSDs are enough?

I would advise against buying the DS723+, because the much better equipped DS923+ costs only minimally more. In return, it has the additional two disk slots, so you can also equip a DS923+ with SATA SSDs, for example. The DS923+ also has these advantages:

- 4GB RAM (instead of 2)
. RAID5 can be used (you can also use smaller disks, but then four, to create a large storage pool).

Regarding the speed of the M.2 SSDs, the NAS itself is of course limited in terms of speed via the Ethernet interface, so I would not set up a volume with M.2 SSDs if you want to be able to send or receive data quickly via the LAN.

Without switching to 10Gbit Ethernet, you wouldn't get much out of the fast speed of the M.2 SSDs.
