Is it possible to connect two pairs of these speakers (i.e. four individual speakers)? And if this is possible, what are the advantages and disadvantages? And what else do you need in addition?

No, unless you have a receiver that can drive four speakers, in which case it would have to be four passive ones: Klipsch R-41M (1 pair, bookshelf speakers, black vinyl)

Basically, this set cannot be expanded, except with a subwoofer.
