Yes, you can set the fan to move back and forth.
You can even adjust the angle at which it swings back and forth.
30, 60, 90 and 120 degrees.
You can also turn off the panning completely.
All via the Xiaomi Home app.
Highly recommendable device.
The built-in battery is an extra plus.
Mains-independent operation possible, e.g. balcony, terrace.
