Question about Teufel Reflekt

I'm thinking about buying a new amplifier that also supports/enables Dolby Atmos. This means that I not only need the amplifier, but also suitable speakers, such as the two from "Teufel Reflekt". But how exactly do I control them? Do they have a single slot/connection on the back of the respective amplifier? Do you just have to make sure that the amplifier supports Dolby Atmos? How often are Dolby Atmos films, series or perhaps video games supported (compatibility)? Are these only 4K UHD Blu-rays or does it already work with normal Blu-rays and video games? If so, how do you notice this, what do you have to pay attention to? Which games and films, for example, are compatible with Dolby Atmos? Do you notice any acoustic difference at all when the two reflectors radiate upwards towards the ceiling?

Helpful answer
Hello ! You're right to ask, because to enjoy Dolby Atmos with speakers like the Teufel Reflekt, several elements need to work well together. Here's everything you need to know:

🎯 1. Dolby Atmos-compatible amplifier
Make sure your amp supports Dolby Atmos and has "Height" outputs.
These outputs are essential for connecting the Teufel Reflekt.
➡️ Common configuration example: 5.1.2 (5 conventional speakers + 1 subwoofer + 2 height speakers).

💡 Check that there are terminals marked Height 1 / Height 2 at the rear of the amp.

🔌 2. How to connect the Teufel Reflekt
These are passive speakers: you connect them to the amp with standard speaker cables, on the "Height" outputs.
No Bluetooth, no HDMI, no remote control.
➡️ Once connected, the amp manages the Atmos signal.

🧲 3. Where and how to place them
Two options:

In "upfiring" mode: placed on the front speakers (e.g. columns), facing the ceiling.

Wall-mounted: fixed high on a wall, facing the listening area.

📌 The rebound effect (upfiring) works well if the ceiling is flat, solid, and not too high (ideal: 2.2 to 2.8 m).

📀 4. What content is Dolby Atmos compatible?
You don't necessarily need 4K Blu-ray. Atmos is also present in :

Some 1080p Blu-rays (look at the cover)

Most 4K UHD Blu-rays

Streaming platforms: Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, Prime Video

Video games :

Xbox Series X/S: Atmos natively supported

PC: Atmos available via Windows + Dolby Access application

PS5: No native Atmos support for games, only for films

💡 The "Dolby Atmos" info is visible in the audio details of the film, series or game.

👂 5. Do you hear a real difference?
Yes, if everything is configured correctly:

Good Atmos content

A well-tuned amplifier

Well positioned Reflekt

➡️ You'll hear effects above your head, like rain, helicopter or vertical ambient noise.
It's not a 'spectacular' effect, but it's immersive - and very useful in some well-mixed films or games.

✅ Quick summary:

✔️ Choose an Atmos amp with Height outputs

✔️ Connect the Reflekt by cable

✔️ Place them correctly (flat ceiling ideal)

✔️ Play Atmos content (Blu-ray, streaming, Xbox, etc.)

If you'd like some advice on choosing an amp or checking your content, I'd be happy to help.

That's a lot of questions :)

So to start with, two speakers won't be enough, where are you going to place them? At the front, at the back? For a start, you'll need at least 4 and a home cinema amplifier with at least 9.1 (which will automatically handle atmos and dts auro 3d (which is starting to appear) since 9.1 and the corresponding number of cables, with the atmos speakers placed on top of the normal speakers).
Films, series and streaming in atmos are relatively rare (especially in French), but the home cinema amplifier doesn't leave you on the sidelines by powering all the speakers as much as possible (a bit like dolby surround).
As far as games are concerned, the PS5 outputs atmos without any problem, but depending on the game, it's 5.1 or even less (even if the sound is coded 5.1 or atmos). Even in a recent AAA game like Indiana Jones, I don't think I've heard the slightest sound coming out at height.
You have to understand that, whatever the source, the sound can be mixed with your feet or with great finesse, just as the image of a film (the photography) can be superb or disgusting, just as the sound of a film (the photography) can be disgusting. You can see this very clearly with Dolby Vision or the sound of old films (in DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD, for period stereo or even mono).

Be that as it may, when the atmos is there and the encoding is up to scratch, it's a pure delight. It's up to you to decide whether it's worth the effort. (I'm in 13.1)
