In addition, for a few days now, another socket (the one by the bedroom door where the light switch is) also lights up when the Philips is in heating mode. What's even stranger is that for the last two days the light has suddenly switched on as soon as the appliance has been running for a few minutes... is my flat not suitable for the Philips or is the Philips the problem? You definitely have a problem with the high power of the Philips... Do you have other loads on the same mains supply? Try plugging the Philips into a socket that belongs to a different fuse. If the same thing happens there, it could be the Philips. Otherwise I would ask an electrician
