Yes you can. I have had good experience with http://www.kowoma.de/gps/freieKarten/osmkowomafreizeitkarte.php.
There are also detailed installation instructions there. Everything is free of charge!

opemmtbmap is an alternative to the now discontinued kowoma service. The installation and transfer to the device had some initial hurdles so far, so it was not quite easy. I have now seen that country-specific maps are now available directly in the Garmin-specific gmapsupp.img format:
